JANAAC List Of Proficiency Testing Providers

As per the policy/procedure of the Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC) as outlined in JANAAC LA/PR/02, all accredited laboratories shall participate in proficiency testing/inter-laboratory comparisons where the participation is appropriate and where such schemes are available and relevant to their scope of accreditation.

JANAAC accepts all proficiency testing /inter-laboratory comparisons recognized by the signatories to the IAAC Multilateral Arrangement and the ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement and/or other accredited regional and international Proficiency Testing Providers (PTP). The following list contains details of Proficiency Testing (PT) schemes that have been found appropriate for JANAAC accredited laboratories and participation in PT schemes organized by such PT providers is acceptable by JANAAC assessors in fulfilling the requirements of accreditation.

This list has been produced to assist laboratories/organization in meeting their responsibilities to identify a suitable scheme for their particular range of tests. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and that it will be continuously updated to ensure it is covering the accredited scopes of JANAAC. There is no obligation to use these particular schemes and organizations/laboratories are free to use appropriate alternative schemes which meet the requirements of their accreditation.

JANAAC recognizes that currently there is no commercial Proficiency Testing Provider in Jamaica and is consequently in discussions with local organizations identified as potential providers. JANAAC is encouraging these organizations to actively pursue the feasibility of developing the competence and appropriate arrangements to provide this critical service to our conformity assessment bodies and to further improve the strength and maturity of our national quality infrastructure.

JANAAC recommends that accredited laboratories and laboratories seeking accreditation search the following websites for PT schemes relevant to the test methods they offer to their customers. All the details about scopes; schedules; instructions / protocols and contact persons are available on the website of each PTP.

Notice of Transition to
ISO/IEC 17011:2017

JANAAC has completed the transition to the revised ISO/IEC 17011 standard, as was demonstrated by the satisfactory results obtained from the most recent IAAC peer evaluation. As such, all our accreditation activities are being conducted in accordance with the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17011:2017 standard.

    Notice of Transition to
    ISO/IEC 17025:2017

ILAC, in consultation with ISO, agreed on a three-year period for laboratories that demonstrate conformity to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard, to make the transition from ISO/IEC 17025:2005, to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 version of the standard. A joint ILAC-ISO communique was issued indicating the transition period would end on November 30, 2020. Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease, ILAC and ISO agreed to extend the transition period to June 1, 2021. Accordingly, JANAAC requires its accredited laboratories to make this transition to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard by June 1, 2021. After this date, accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 will no longer be valid. During this transition period, both revisions of the standard are equally valid and applicable. JANAAC will no longer accept applications for accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard and is aiming to complete all transition assessments before September 30, 2020. All assessments (initial, re-assessments and interim assessments, including scope extensions) are being conducted using the revised standard, ISO/IEC 17025:2017. All accredited and applicant testing and calibration laboratories must have copies of the revised standard and should be well advanced in updating their activities to satisfy the new requirements in order to meet the transition timelines. Please contact JANAAC for any further information and clarification required.
